Lobe Pumps

The natural frequencies of pipes cause pulsation where even low-level volume fluctuations from a pump match the pipe frequency.

Lobe pumps give this pressure output characteristic:

The frequency of the pressure variations is given by

frequency = no. of lobes or teeth per rev x revs per second of pump

If any natural frequencies of the piping system match this frequency, you will have a pulsation problem.
